Moment-Rec Status + M5Stack giveaway!!
In this post, I will give you an overview of the current development of Moment-Rec. As well as future upcoming milestones, events and goals.
About two months ago, I did the last giveaway and thanked you all for the continuing support on Twitch, social media and also in my personal environment. I would like to do this again and thank everybody for everything you do for me. You are the reason I stay motivated and am strong enough to continue on this journey. As a thank you, I will do another giveaway (check the end of the article).
What’s the current status of Moment-Rec?
Currently I’m working on the second milestone of the embedded software code. I grouped the todos on embedded development in two different categories/milestones:
- Hardware verification, Hardware interface modules
- Features to comply to Moment-Rec’s requirements
I completed the first milestone pretty much on schedule at the end of June. The duration of the second milestone was pretty hard to estimate for me. So, I continued with one week of software architecture planing. This gave me an overview of what I needed to do. Furthermore, it improved my confidence in the architecture I have chosen.
The diagram above shows the UML drawing I created during a week livestream. It helps a lot when I consider different ways to solve a problem and also want to explain it to live stream viewers.
The current goal is to complete the embedded software milestone 0.1b as fast as possible (it will still take about 1 month). Next, we start the crowdfunding.
The project is still not finished and there are still many steps until it can be considered a commercial product. But, at this stage we have a minimum viable product (MVP).
Crowdfunding will be to estimate market demand for a product like Moment-Rec. It will also be necessary to fund the money needed to push Moment-Rec form MVP to a commercial product.
What’s needed to go from MVP to commercial product?
A minimum viable product proofs that the idea works and that it can be produced. However, it’s not optimized for performance, aesthetics and cost yet. Therefore, we will add little but significant improvements to each part of Moment-Rec. In addition, we have to get ready to get the product certified (CE, FCC, etc.). Finally, there are also a number of documents that we will need to write (manual, safety, etc.). Here is a list of what will happen during and after crowdfunding.
- Rework Mechanics (new casing, lower price, different button design)
- Rework Embedded code (performance, current consumption, throughput, security)
- Rework Android App (design, performance, all features, other OSes)
- Certification (EMC, Safety, Bluetooth, etc.)
- Testing, 0-series, Production tests (Safety, Security, Stability, Environment, Features)
- Negotiations (PCB, Assembler, Mechanics, Casing, 3PL)
- Marketing / Advertisement
